Tree Root Removal, Repaving on the Olympic Discovery Trail, October 13-16
Olympic Discovery Trail maintenance will take place from Tuesday, October 13, through Friday, October 16, between the 10th and 18th Street trail entrances. Work will include removing damaged asphalt and tree roots, followed by resurfacing the trail.

What to expect:
This section of trail will close on October 13 at 8 a.m. and remain closed through October 16 at 4 p.m. A bypass route is available.

Soil testing on 16th Street, 18th Street, and along the Olympic Discovery Trail, October 14-15
On Wednesday, October 14, and Thursday, October 15, the Public Works & Utilities Department will perform soil testing on 16th Street, 18thStreet, and on the Olympic Discovery Trail (between 18th Street and Dry Creek).

This work supports the City’s Transmission Main Replacement Project from the Water Treatment Plant to D Street, which is evaluating the replacement of an aging water transmission main that serves the community. As part of this work, a small truck-mounted drill rig will be used to collect soil samples at set intervals along the pipeline route. The samples will help engineers understand ground conditions and how soils may affect the durability of a new pipe.

What to expect:
Expected work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Traffic control will be present during this time. Short delays are possible, but no road or trail closures are planned. Each boring will take less than 15 minutes, after which the crew will move to the next location. Nearly all work will take place on the roadway shoulder or beside the trail. One location will require brief work within the roadway.

Please slow down near the work area, follow the direction of flaggers and signs, and give crews room to work safely. Trail users should use caution and expect equipment and personnel near the trail edge.
