Hello from the Washington State Department of Transportation,
As summer approaches, we want to remind you about temporary changes for some pedestrians and bicyclists using US 101. While we completed several fish barrier removal projects in 2024, we have more work ahead of us this construction season. There are two locations between Gardiner and Sequim where bicyclists and pedestrians are detoured onto the Olympic Discovery Trail.
People on bicycles or walking from Blyn to Sequim will detour onto the Olympic Discovery Trail. US 101 will remain open for people heading from Sequim to Blyn.
Detour map for bicyclists and pedestrians going from Gardiner to Blyn.
Both detours will continue until late summer 2025. More information is available at the project webpage.
We would greatly appreciate your help in getting the word out!
Also, this summer, whether heading to the Hoh Rainforest or windswept Pacific Ocean beaches, travelers will see some additional views: orange cones and multiple work zones.
The Washington State Department of Transportation will have multiple fish habitat, safety and preservation projects under construction on six state highways in four counties.
To help travelers prepare for the construction, WSDOT has an online open house highlighting 12 projects on US 101, US 12 and State Routes 8, 104, 112 and 116 and in Grays Harbor, Mason, Jefferson and Clallam counties.
Please let us know if you have any questions.

The City of Port Angeles has some upcoming ODT trail repair work taking place in April that is going to require us to close the trail in two different locations.
- Location: Marine Drive ODT Dates of Closure: April 21st – April 25th
The first area is going to be from the bottom of Hill Street, heading East, to the entrance of Port Boat Launch / Yacht Club parking lot along Marine Drive. This work will be to resurface the trail portion that was uncovered and graded this Winter. The work will not affect access to Port or Lower Elwha property but the trail itself will be closed to use and the curbside parking will also be off limits during this time.
- Location: ODT FEMA Winter Storm Repairs ( Area East of Rayonier Property all the way to Langley property entrance to ODT )
Proposed Date: Contractor would like to begin April 28th and would require 3 weeks of total closure ( thru May 16th )There are 12 identified areas of significant damage along this location that have prevented the City from being able to do there routine maintenance and clean up along this stretch and vital for us to get done now that we have received the go ahead and support from FEMA to do so. Both of these major access points ( Rayonier and 4 Seasons / Langley entrance ) will be essential access points to the work zone as the trail is not drivable all the way through in its current state end to end.City is in process of working with contractor to establish work dates with Contractor to perform this work and is requesting information for any known events that may be taking place between April 28th thru May 16th, that would need to be notified and / or rerouted. There is still some flexibility in this timeframe, but not much, as FEMA also has strict timelines as to when this work needs to be performed now that it has been approved. Thanks,Tim TuckerPort Angeles Parks and Recreation ManagerNOTICE: This email and any attachments may be subject to disclosure as a public record under the Public Records Act, RCW Chapter 42.56
~ OAT mp 17.5? Warnings posted at each end stating that trail is under construction and to exercise caution.
Notice from Washington State DNR that closure of the Olympic Adventure Trail near Whiskey creek for harvest has been cleared. Please be careful in the section. Harvest procedures change the terrain. The trail in the area will be undergoing reconstruction for a while.
There will be an upcoming closure to the Adventure Trail just east of the new Whiskey Creek bridge for timber harvest activities. The closure should be short in duration and there will not be an option for a detour. The grey area on the attached map shows where the unit crosses the Adventure Trail. We are planning to post signage at the intersection with the 1200 road and at Joyce Piedmont road. We anticipate work to begin at the earliest in 15 days.
Thanks,WA State DNR Olympic Region
