Mission, Vision, Principles & IRS 990

Founded in 1988, the non-profit Peninsula Trails Coalition (PTC), as the leading advocate for the Olympic Discovery Trail, subscribes to the following:

PTC Mission Statement

To construct, maintain, and advocate for the Olympic Discovery Trail as a nationally significant, non-motorized, multi-use recreational and transportation trail across the North Olympic Peninsula.

PTC Vision Statement

To sustain the Olympic Discovery Trail as a world class, multi-use pathway connecting communities across the North Olympic Peninsula, providing recreation and active transportation access for a diverse spectrum of users, and serving as a catalyst for regional economic development.

PTC Guiding Principles

The Peninsula Trails Coalition pursues our Mission and Vision guided by the following principles and
values

  • The PTC is committed to integrity, respect, and transparency in our dealings with the jurisdictions of the ODT and the communities it passes through, striving to comply with the spirit and letter of the law, to avoid conflict of interest, to be accountable for our words and actions, and to treat all with fairness, respect, and dignity.
  • The ODT trail network will, both by design and operation, inclusively and equitably serve the most diverse possible community of users and modes, regardless of age, ability, or equipment, to provide a safe, enjoyable, and welcoming experience for all.
  • The ODT passes through many diverse jurisdictions, each of which have independent regulatory responsibilities. PTC strives to proactively coordinate with those jurisdictions to promote and ensure conformity in design and operation, so as to provide a seamless and consistent user experience across the ODT.
  • The ODT and associated trails traverse ancestral lands of the S’Klallam, Quileute, and Coast Salish People, who hold reserved rights on these lands, and have cared for these lands since time immemorial. We value our collaboration with these communities, and we strive to reflect their values in our partnerships.
  • The ODT and associated trails, wherever possible and appropriate, will be developed and maintained as a western terminus of a national system of active transportation infrastructure, 2022-2026 Strategic Plan integrating with other national transportation systems such as the Great American Rail-Trail and the United States Bicycle Route System.
